Winner of the AFI Research Collection 2015 fellowship announced

The AFIRC in partnership with the Screen Cultures Lab at RMIT University’s School of Media and Communication is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2015 AFIRC Research Fellowship is Alexia Kannas.

A brief summary of the proposed research is below:

The research will draw on the AFI library’s collection of international film journals,
clippings files and historical film posters to investigate a number of questions about
the ghost film, including: how and where does the ghost film split from its parent
genre – the horror film – in terms of design and affect? How has film criticism
engaged with the figure of the ghost in writing on the ghost film, as well as on
cinema more broadly? And, how might the figure of the ghost function as a layered
sign with specific resonances in non-Hollywood cinemas, such as Australian film?
